THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swimming and diving sophomore co-captain Rodrigo Quadros Correia was named the men’s ACC Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming (CollegeSwimming.com), it was announced today. This week CollegeSwimming selected Swimmers of the Week from 62 of the nation’s 75 college swimming conferences.
Last weekend, Correia paced the Yellow Jackets with a total of four individual wins and was part of the 400 medley relay unit that took home first-place honors in the dual meet versus Notre Dame at the McAuley Aquatic Center on Oct. 21-22.
He picked up the first of his two wins on Friday in the 200 IM with the fastest time of the year for Tech and an NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time at 1:48.05. His second win of the day came in the 100 free, as he touched the wall in a time of 44.51, which is a season best for Tech.
On Saturday, Correia continued where he left off on Friday by touching the wall in an NCAA ‘B’ qualifying time of 1:37.53 for a first-place finish in the 200 free event. His time was also a Tech season-best mark. He followed that win up with a first-place finish in the 100 back event with a time of 48.97, also a season-best mark for the Yellow Jackets.
Correia also swam the final leg of the 400 medley relay squad that picked up a key first-place win with their time of 3:16.93 and was the final leg in the 400 free relay unit that took second-place with a time of 3:01.89, also a season best time for the Yellow Jackets.
