THE FLATS – Freshman distance runner Sarah Copeland has been named ACC Women’s Co-Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday.
Copeland, a relative newcomer to cross country, asked Head Coach Alan Drosky to race in Saturday’s meet to improve her technical ability. She did just that as she improved her per kilometer pace by about three seconds over her previous best at the Kennesaw State Opener, a notable mark considering the Kennesaw State Opener was a 4k race and the Alexander/Asics Invitational was a 5k race.
Copeland won the Alexander/Asics Invitational by nearly four seconds and finished 36.36 seconds ahead of the closest true freshman.
The next meet for Georgia Tech cross country is in University Park, Pa. at the Penn State National Open on Friday, Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m. This is the final meet before ACC Championships on Friday, Oct. 29.
