Collegiate Baseball Preseason Top 40 | Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America Teams
THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech baseball team opens the 2013 season back in the Top 40 as the Yellow Jackets were ranked 17th in Collegiate Baseball’s preseason poll. Also announced were the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-America Teams, selected by Collegiate Baseball.
Tech returns 23 letterwinners from last season’s ACC Championship team, led by seniors Buck Farmer and Brandon Thomas. Farmer was selected to Louisville Sluggers’ preseason All-America second-team as a starting pitcher, while Thomas was named a third-team outfielder.
Tech is one of seven teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference ranked in the preseason top-40. North Carolina checks in at No. 2, followed by NC State (11th), Florida State (19th), Clemson (27th), Miami (28th) and Virginia (35th). The Yellow Jackets are set to face the six other preseason-ranked ACC clubs, with UNC, State and Virginia coming to Russ Chandler Stadium.
Of Tech’s non-conference foes, Georgia is ranked 29th and Coastal Carolina is 38th.
The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll, dating back to the 1958 season.
The Yellow Jackets open the 2013 season Feb. 15 versus Akron at Russ Chandler Stadium.
