Lewis Clinch, Ashlee Kidd, Jerome Miller, and Sam Morgan were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, February 27, 2006.
Clinch, a freshman from Cordele, Ga., further established himself as one of the top freshmen in the Atlantic Coast Conference last week, scoring a career-high 20 points to lead Tech to a 76-61 victory over Wake Forest in Tech’s final home game of the season. The 6-3 guard made 7 of 12 shots from the floor, including 5 of 7 from three-point range, all career bests, while also grabbing five rebounds, dishing four assists and taking three steals in 31 minutes. Earlier in the week, Clinch scored nine points with five rebounds, four assists, only one turnover and two steals in 31 minutes as Tech took No. 1 Duke down to the final minutes before falling, 73-66.
Kidd, a junior from St. Petersburg, Fla., won the ACC Indoor titles in the 200- and 400-meter dash events. She posted ACC meet and school records in the 200m (23.37) and 400m (52.61) and also had NCAA Provisional times in both races. Her time of 52.61 in the 400m was the second fastest time in the nation this year.
Miller, a sophomore from Stafford, Va., earned All-ACC honors in both the triple jump and high jump events at the Indoor Championships over the weekend. He finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 48 feet, 10 1/4 inches, and also placed third in the high jump with a clear of 6 feet, 11 ½ inches.
Morgan, a senior from Gainesville, Ga., garnered All-ACC honors in the 1650 freestyle by finishing second with a NCAA ‘B’ standard time of 15:06.69. He placed fourth in the 400 individual medley (4:26.35) and seventh in the 500 free (3:52.72) while also clocking NCAA ‘B’ standard times in both races.
