GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Alec Clifford of the Georgia Tech men’s cross country team was named to the All-ACC Academic cross country team, Tuesday. Clifford, a Biomedical Engineering major placed for the Jackets in five of their six meets this season.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
Florida State’s Hannah Brooks was selected as the 2011 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Women’s Cross Country, while teammate Michael Fout earned the honor on the men’s side of things.
Clifford, who was competing in his first season on the cross country team in 2012, improved upon his times week in and week out ultimately setting career best times in the 8k during the ACC Championship (25:09) and the 10k during the NCAA Championship (33:44.2)
Eight All-Conference honorees also earned academic honors on the men’s side while 17 All-NCAA Regional honorees, including 10 All-ACC performers and two All-Americans secured a spot on the women’s academic team.
