Georgia Tech Head Coach MaChelle Joseph on the passing of Kay Yow
“Kay Yow represented what was good about our game. However, the impact she made on so many lives will live on forever. Her spirit and ability to bring out the best in those around her is her legacy. There is not a women’s basketball coach in the ACC or the country that has or has had the respect and admiration of their peers that Kay did. She will be missed by everyone”.
ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball program in conjunction with the Atlantic Coast Conference is participating in the “Chow 4 Yow” Initiative. All ACC women’s basketball coaches have come together in support of their colleague and NC State head women’s basketball coach Kay Yow.
Tech head Coach MaChelle Joseph and her staff have organized an exciting opportunity for individuals to win “A Day at the GTAA”. Yellow Jacket fans will have the opportunity to go online and bid on this event from today through Feb. 7 in support of the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer FundTM. The winners will be announced at the Pink Zone game against NC State on Feb. 8.
“I am really honored to have an opportunity to contribute to the Kay Yow Fund through the ACC Chow for Yow Initiative,” Joseph said. “Coach Yow’s battle has been an inspiration to everyone who knows her story but in particular to the other head coaches in the ACC. We all have agreed to get behind Coach Yow in her mission to bring awareness to the world.”
Yow, who was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, has stepped away from her coaching duties for the remainder of the 2008-09 season due to her current health situation.
Ten winners will be treated to a day at the Georgia Tech Athletic Association, including a tour of the GTAA, a behind-the-scenes look at the day-to-day operations of Georgia Tech athletics, and enjoy a lunch with Joseph in the GTAA cafeteria. Bidding starts at $100.
The Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer FundTM is the sole charity beneficiary of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). With 100 percent of the league’s women’s basketball coaches and administrative staffs supporting the initiative, each school will conduct a “Meal with the Coach” fundraiser this season at his or her institution. All proceeds will be pooled together as a single donation to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer FundTM.
