Entry #1
Greetings from Carolina everyone! I’m just sitting here reflecting over the last 48 hours. Where do I start? Well…let’s talk about yesterday. What a day it was. The schedule for yesterday was to go to classes, practice from 11-1, and depart for the airport at 2:00. I must have underestimated the task it was of getting a bag packed and filled for at least four days down three flights of stairs and to my car in the rain. You can probably imagine how frustrating that can be. But I made it and everything was all good by the time practice started. We had a great practice and everyone was so focused on the tournament and what we need to do to still be playing when the tournament ends. Do you understand that this team is for real? We have Miami at 11 a.m. Thursday morning and that is a game that we are all looking forward to considering the outcome of our last meeting. It is so crazy and ironic too that we are playing Miami in the first round of the ACC tournament for the fourth time of my career. I’m pumped for the tournament in general. I’m a senior and I’m just enjoying this last month of my career here at Tech.
Now for the airport……well, we get to the airport and our flight is scheduled to leave at 4:05 p.m. After waiting around until about 6:30, we were told that the flight was CANCELLED! “Well coach what are we going to do?”….”Janie what do you think the girls want to do?” Haha…I can laugh about it now but it was far from funny at the time. After waiting around another two hours we end up busing to Greensboro and arriving at 2:00 a.m. The things we do for the love of the game. That’s one thing for sure…my TEAM loves this game and it shows!
Well today was a fairly early day. We had breakfast at 9:30 and video at 10:30. We then bused to the coliseum to have a shoot around at 11:30. Gosh…being in the gym brought about a lot of memories (both good and bad). This is what it’s all about. It doesn’t matter what seed you are or your record. That’s why we call it March Madness. However, we are the higher seed in our game for the second straight year. Now that’s something to be proud of. After shoot-around we visited a local elementary school. It was great and it made us all bring up memories from our younger years. We joked about how important it was to be popular as a 5th grader, old-school fashions (for tall kids), and the old books we used to read like Goosebumps and The Babysitter’s Club. Well it was just fun and the kids will be there tomorrow cheering us on! Go Jackets! See you early tomorrow…and if things go according to plan, I’ll see you again and again and again!
