Bynum, Schenscher Sign NBA Contracts

Aug. 22, 2005

ATLANTA – Former Georgia Tech basketball stars Will Bynum and Luke Schenscher both signed NBA free agent contracts last week, Bynum on Friday with the Boston Celtics, and Schenscher on Wednesday with the Denver Nuggets.

Due to team policies, terms were not disclosed for either contract. Former Tech guard Jarrett Jack, a first-round draft choice who was traded to Portland on draft night, has a three-year contract with the Trail Blazers.

Bynum, a 6-0, 185-pound guard, competed on the Celtics 2005 summer league entry in the Vegas Reebok Summer League, averaging 4.2 points to go with 2.7 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game in 6 appearances.

He averaged 9.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game in 101 career games at Georgia Tech. As a senior, Bynum scored a Georgia Tech ACC Tournament record 35 points in the Yellow Jackets’ semifinal victory over North Carolina. He went on to earn first-team All-Tournament honors, averaging 20.7 points over three tournament games. During his junior year, Bynum helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the NCAA Championship game with a last second basket to defeat Oklahoma State.

Schenscher, a 7-1, 255-pound center, played with Denver at the Reebok Vegas Summer League in July, starting all six games and averaging 5.0 ppg and 2.7 rpg in 14.7 minutes.

He averaged 7.3 ppg and 5.4 rpg over his four-year career at Tech and ranks fifth all-time in school history with 157 blocked shots. He averaged 10.1 ppg and 7.3 rpg last year as a senior. As a junior, he helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the 2004 NCAA title game and averaged 14.0 ppg and 11.5 rpg at the Final Four.
