Bynum, Howard, Miller and Slayden Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech standouts Will Bynum, Chaunte Howard, Kristi Miller and Jeremy Slayden were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, March 14, 2005.

Bynum, a senior from Chicago, Ill., averaged 20.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in helping the Yellow Jackets to the ACC Tournament finals. Against North Carolina, Bynum was virtually unstoppable, scoring a career high 35 points, including the last seven points of the game. For his efforts, he was named to the ACC all-Tournament team.

Howard, a junior from Riverside, Calif., won her third straight NCAA Championship, capturing the high jump title at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She tied her own indoor school record, clearing 6’3.5″. Her first place finish placed the Yellow Jackets in a tie for 21st place in the team standings.

Miller, a freshman from Marysville, Mich., helped the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 record on the week against ACC opponents, while Georgia Tech improved to 10-2 on the season, 4-0 in the ACC. She went 3-0 at No. 1 singles on the week, dropping a total of just six of 42 total games played. With her win over Wake Forest’s Karin Coetzee, she set the Tech record for most singles wins in a season. Miller currently has an overall singles mark of 32-6 (.842) with a dual match record of 9-3 (.750) and is 3-1 (.750) in four ACC matches this season.

Slayden, a senior from Murfreesboro, Tenn., hit .786 (11-for-14) with four home runs and 17 RBI in four games to lead Georgia Tech to a perfect 5-0 record last week. Slayden led Tech to wins over William & Mary, Georgia Southern and a three-game sweep of Wake Forest. For the week, he posted a 1.714 slugging percentage and a .850 on base percentage.
