THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track and field junior Brandon Lasater was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I men’s and women’s track and field/cross country third team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.
The Perry, Ga., native maintains a 3.56 cumulative GPA in electrical engineering. To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
Lasater is the 2014 ACC Indoor 800-meter champion and placed second in the event at the 2014 ACC Outdoor Championship. He is currently competing at the 2014 USATF Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
Earlier this season, he anchored the 4×800-meter relay team that won the event at the Florida Relays for the second-straight year and broke the 20-year-old Georgia Tech school record. The quartet recorded a time of 7:16.89, which tops the previous school record set in1994 at 7:18.94.
