ATLANTA – Georgia Tech freshman Chris Bosh was named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week Monday after leading Georgia Tech to victories last week over #17 Georgia (83-77) and Gardner-Webb (75-53).
The 6-10 freshman scored 15 points with 10 rebounds and 4 assists in leading the Yellow Jackets to the home-court victory over the 17th-ranked Bulldogs. Against Gardner-Webb, he notched his third double-double in three games with 17 points and 12 rebounds. For the week, Bosh made 12 of 20 shots from the floor and 7 of 9 free throws. Ten of his 22 rebounds came on the offensive glass and helped Tech to a 27-11 edge in second-chance points. He leads Tech in scoring (19.3) and rebound average (12.0) through three games this season, and leads the ACC in rebounding.
North Carolina freshman Rashad McCants was tabbed as the ACC Basketball Player of the Week after being named the Most Valuable Player of the Preseason NIT after leading UNC to wins over #2 Kansas and Stanford. McCants was the leading scorer in both games – 25 vs. Kansas and 18 vs. Stanford while hitting on 17 for 26 from the floor, three-for-six from three-point field goal range and six-of-eight from the free throw line in the two games. McCants leads the ACC in scoring with a 21.2 points per game average.
