Scott Blackmon, Whitney Haller, Jerome Miller, and Kristi Miller were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, April 10, 2006.
Blackmon, a sophomore from Pensacola, Fla., helped the men’s tennis team to two ACC wins over the weekend, including an upset of No. 26 Wake Forest. Blackmon posted two wins in singles and teamed with Zachary Rath to go 1-1 in doubles during the week. He now stands with a team-best nine wins in singles matches this year in dual matches.
Haller, a freshman from Marietta, Ga., began the week with a bang, smashing three home runs in a doubleheader against Chattanooga, going 4-for-7, with 10 runs batted in, leading Tech to two wins. Over the weekend, she went 2-for-9, with a double. She finished the week 6-for-16, with three runs scored, three home runs, two doubles and a 1.063 slugging percentage for the week. Haller also became Tech’s school record holder with a season total of 47 runs scored and is seven RBI shy of tying the single-season ACC record
J. Miller, a sophomore from Stafford, Virginia, led the Yellow Jackets last weekend at the Spec Towns Invitational. Miller posted a season-best and NCAA Region mark of 7 feet, ¼ inch, in the men’s high jump to finish in first place. He then tallied a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 47 feet, ¼ inch.
K. Miller, a sophomore from Marysville, Mich., was a perfect 4-0 on the week in matches against No. 5 North Carolina and No. 12 Duke. Three of her wins were against ranked opponents, including an upset of the No. 7 doubles team from North Carolina and a straight set win over sixth-ranked Daniela Bercek of Duke.
