"Big Boi" Will Take Center Stage At Halftime Of Virginia Tech Game

Sept. 20, 2007

ATLANTA – Antwan “Big Boi” Patton, one half of the Grammy-award winning duo OutKast, will perform at halftime of the Georgia Tech-Virginia Tech football game on Thursday, Nov. 1.

Patton, an Atlanta native, will perform along with the Georgia Tech marching band during the nationally-televised game. A pyrotechnic display will also be featured in the show, according to Jennifer Pierce, Director of Promotions and Events at Georgia Tech.

“Big Boi’s unique presence will bring Georgia Tech football into the mainstream of the Atlanta entertainment scene,” said Wayne Hogan, Tech’s Associate Athletic Director for Public Relations. “We are striving to provide a blockbuster entertainment experience for Atlanta’s young and diverse community. What better place than in the heart of Atlanta – as a part of Georgia Tech football?”

Big Boi has been hard at work in 2007, having just released a movie and recently partnering with the Atlanta Ballet. His Atlanta-based foundation Big Kidz focuses on preparing children for life’s intellectual challenges and has received national acclaim.

With music that blends soul, funk and hip hop, Big Boi and Andre 3000 collectively comprised the mega-successful duo Outkast. They enjoyed a run of platinum albums, hit singles and numerous critical accolades in addition to their commercial success.

The Georgia Tech-Virginia Tech game, part of ESPN’s Thursday Night package, is expected to have a huge impact on the race for the ACC’s Coastal Division title won by the Yellow Jackets in 2006. There are still tickets available for the 7:30 p.m. contest. They can be purchased by visiting RamblinWreck.com or calling 1-888-TECH-TIX.
