GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman outside hitter Bianca Bertolino has been named ACC Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive time in as many weeks, the Atlantic Coast Conference office announced on Tuesday.
Bertolino, owning the top freshman in the conference status based on her first two weeks against collegiate competition, put forth another strong weekend against Long Beach State and No. 16 UCLA. at the Long Beach State Tournament. The Argentinian tallied the second most kills on the squad with 30 along with 19 digs, an ace and a block on the weekend.
Bertolino was vital in Tech’s 3-1 win over Long Beach State as she led the team with 21 kills, a career high, while hitting .541 with only one error. The outside hitter also pitched in defensively with 12 digs and a block. Against UCLA, Bertolino’s nine kills ranked third on the team as she added seven digs as well.
On a conference scale, Bertolino currently ranks 10th in the league in both kills (64) and points (73.5). In individual matches, her 21 kills against Long Beach State are tied for the third most in a single match amongst the league this season. In that same match, her .541 attack percentage is the sixth highest mark in the ACC with more kills than any other listing in the top 10.
