INDIANAPOLIS – Senior All-American Shilo Ayalon finished fifth in the 1500-meter freestyle, and the men’s 400-meter medley relay team took sixth Saturday as the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams wrapped up an impressive week at the 2003 ConocoPhillips U.S. National Swimming Championships. The Yellow Jacket men finished tied for 27th with 16 points.
Ayalon swam 15:36.27 in the 1500 free to lead a group of three Yellow Jackets among the top 20 finishers in the event. Junior Eduardo Oliver finished 12th (15:54.71), while freshman Sam Morgan was 20th (16:07.99). Former Tech standout Leo Salinas finished 10th. Oliver also finished eighth in the 800 free Tuesday and scored all 16 of the Tech team points. Foreign individuals and relays with foreign competitors were not eligible for team scoring.
Tech’s men’s 400 medley relay of Jeremy Raines, Yonatan Cohen, Matt Figh and Josh Hersko posted a time of 3:55.68 to post the sixth-place finish. The Yellow Jacket men placed among the top 11 finishers in all three relays. The women’s 400 medley of Ashley Kracke, Cara DeVinny, Anna Saum and Meghan DeVinney finished 29th in 4:30.05.
In other individual action, Cohen was 40th in the 200 individual medley (2:11.04), while DeVinny was 67th (2:25.77) in the women’s 200 IM and Lisa Hancock took 88th (2:28.01).
