THE FLATS – Following his four sacks against Georgia, a game in which he tied Georgia Tech’s career sacks record, senior defensive end Jeremiah Attaochu was honored Monday as the ACC’s Defensive Lineman of the Week.
On Senior Day Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium, Attaochu was on the field for all 73 of the Bulldog’s offensive plays and set a career-high with four sacks totaling 17 yards, made eight tackles and broke up as pass in the double overtime thriller.
His fourth sack of Georgia quarterback Hutson Mason allowed the Washington, D.C. native to tie former Jacket Greg Gathers (1999-02) for the career record. Attaochu will have more opportunity to break the career record, when Tech makes its 17thconsecutive bowl appearance later this month.
With 12.0 sacks this season – the sixth-most in a season in Tech history, Attaochu is tied for the ACC lead with Clemson’s Vic Beasley. His 31.0 career sacks currently leads all active FBS players and ranks tied for fifth all-time in the ACC.
The award is the third of Attaochu’s career and the seventh won by the Yellow Jackets this season:
