TUSCALOOSA, Ala- The doubles duo of sophomore Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer and freshman Alexis Prokopuik of the women’s tennis team won the Melissa Minor Draw on the final day of the Roberta Alison Fall Classic at Alabama on Saturday.
The tandem of Anton-Ohlmeyer and Prokopuik took down DePaul’s King and Fargas, 8-6, to advance to the draw’s final match. In the finals, Anton-Ohlmeyer and Prokopuik faced El Kamash and Hartono of Ole Miss and edged the duo, 8-3.
Junior Kendal Woodard and sophomore Johnnise Renaud suffered two doubles losses in the Bianca Svensson Draw. Against Alabama’s Jansen and Perez, Woodard and Reanud fell, 8-6. The pair was defeated by Tennessee Chattanooga’s Jones and Chadwell, 8-4.
Woodard was the only Yellow Jacket to win their singles match on the final day of play. In the Ashley Bentley Draw, Woodard fell to Samford’s Yasmeen Ebada’s 6-4 in the first set. Woodard bounced back to win the next two sets, 6-3, 6-4.
In the Mary Anne Macfarlane Draw, Renaud defeated Tulane’s Naz Karagoz in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Anton-Ohlmeyer was defeated by Ole Miss’ Iris Verboven, 7-5, 6-3, in the Taylor Lindsey draw. Prokopuik fell in tight singles match to Tennessee Chattanooga’s Kayla Jones. Jones won set one, 7-6 (4), while Prokopuik took set two, 6-2. Jones edged Prokopuik in set three, 7-6 (8).
