Tallahassee, Fla. – Junior Kelly Anderson recorded two doubles wins and another singles victory, posting an overall record of 3-0 in her matches Friday to pace the Yellow Jackets on day one of the 2004 Lady Seminole Classic, which is being held at the Florida State Tennis Courts in Tallahassee, Fla.
Anderson teamed with freshman Esther van Londen in doubles action and recorded an 8-5 victory over UCF’s Kristina Lohmos and Kyla McNicol in the first round before taking an 8-1 win against Boston College’s Olga Ruislova and Martina Strussova to advance to the final round match in the Flight No. 1 Doubles bracket.
In other doubles action, sophomore Alison Silverio teamed with Temple’s Ana Maslesa and advanced to the fifth-place match in the Flight No. 2 Doubles bracket with a close 7-9 loss against Boston College’s Lucia Polakova and Valerie Kendrick and a 9-8 win over Virginia’s Lauren Bruch and Caroline Hammond.
Anderson remains the lone undefeated Yellow Jacket in singles play, as she survived a three-set match against UCF’s Lohmos, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 in Flight No. 1 Singles play. Van Londen dropped her singles match in straight sets, 1-6, 3-6, to USF’s Fabiana Taverna in the No. 3 Singles Flight while Silverio fell victim to Baylor’s Z. Cema in Flight No. 2 Singles action, 1-6, 3-6. All three Yellow Jackets remain alive and will continue singles matches Saturday morning.
