SAN DIEGO – Kelly Anderson and Whitney McCray won two matches Saturday to capture the Red Draw doubles title at the SDSU Fall Tennis Classic, which is being held at the Aztec Tennis Center on the campus of San Diego State University. The tournament began Friday morning and runs through Sunday afternoon.
Anderson and McCray defeated Rice’s Blair DiSesa and Alanna Rodgers, 9-7 in semifinal action before defeating their Yellow Jacket teammates Lyndsay Shosho and Alison Silverio, 8-3 in the final. Shosho and Silverio advanced to Saturday’s final with an 8-4 victory over Rice’s Kimberley Patenaude and Medeja Egic.
Two Yellow Jackets advanced to Sunday’s finals in draw championships, as Kacie Anson downed Rice’s Patenaude, 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals of the Gold Draw while Christy Striplin advanced via walkover in the Black Draw. Shosho captured the back-draw championship in the Red Draw by defeating San Diego State’s Alesya Vidov, 6-1, 6-2 in the final after advancing past the semifinal via walkover.
In other doubles action, Striplin and Anson fell to San Diego’s Jenny Brown and Helene Lindstrand, 8-4.
The Yellow Jackets were unable to advance any other singles players on the day, as Silverio, Anderson and McCray fell in their semifinal matches.
