Anderson & Grant Lead Tech Women's Tennis on Final Day of the June Stewart Fall Invitational

ATLANTA – Kelly Anderson and Sekita Grant both won a singles and doubles match on the final day of competition to conclude play in the 2003 June Stewart Fall Invitational with a 3-1 singles record while teaming together to earn a doubles victory. The tournament was hosted by Vanderbilt at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center in Nashville, Tenn.

Anderson, a sophomore from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, had an easy 6-3, 6-3 victory over Ole Miss’ Sabrina Peppl to earn her third victory of the weekend. Her only loss came on Saturday afternoon to Vanderbilt’s Annie Mennes by a 6-4, 7-6(3) score.

She teamed with Grant in doubles play and together, they defeated the Rebels’ Adams and Peppl, 8-3,on Sunday morning.

Grant earned her third singles win of the Invitational over Vanderbilt’s Helene Stephens, 6-3, 6-1.

Sophomore Lyndsay Shosho and freshman Alison Silverio also won their singles matches on Sunday morning to each conclude tournament play with a 2-2 record. Shosho dropped her first set against Ole Miss’ Karem Harboe by a 6-3 score but then came back to win the second by the same score. The two played a tiebreaker for the third set, with Shosho earning an 11-9 victory. Silverio had an easier match, as she defeated the Rebels’ Florencia Basile, 6-2, 6-1.

Silverio teamed with Lindsey Stauss to defeat Middle Tennessee State’s Williams and Cibils by an 8-6 score on Sunday morning, and they finished the tournament with a 2-1 doubles record.

This was the final fall tournament for the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team. They will take two months off before beginning spring play at the Michigan Invitational, set to begin January 9th.
