Anderson, Delass, Gvelesiani, and Kellogg Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Kelly Anderson, Jordan Delass, George Gvelesiani and Talisa Kellogg were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, October 10, 2005.

Anderson, a senior from South Africa, captured the back-draw championship of the qualifying tournament at the 2005 Riveria/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. After dropping her first match in the Qualifying draw of the tournament in straight sets, Anderson rebounded to win five straight matches, including a three set victory over No. 27 Catrina Thompson from Notre Dame. Anderson now stands at 9-4 record in singles action this fall.

Delass, a sophomore from Marietta, Ga., teamed with Gvelesiani to defeat Nick Cromydas and Nathan Sachs of Vanderbilt by a score of 8-5 to claim the doubles title in the “B” Flight at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Tech pair also defeated teams from Furman and Georgia State over the weekend. Delass and Gvelesiani stand with a 6-2 record in doubles action this fall. In singles action in the tournament, Delass advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to Stiegwardt of Georgia State in the “A” singles draw.

Gvelesiani, a sophomore from Norcross, Ga., teamed with Delass to defeat Nick Cromydas and Nathan Sachs of Vanderbilt by a score of 8-5 to claim the doubles title in the “B” Flight at the Georgia Tech Invitational. In singles action, Gvelesiani fell in the second round of the “A” singles draw to Klaeson of Ole Miss.

Kellogg, a freshman from Westerville, Ohio, helped the Yellow Jackets to three wins on the weekend, including a 3-2 victory over No. 25 Maryland. Against Maryland, Kellogg recorded 17 kills and a career-best eight block assists and then followed it up with a career-best 18 kills while posting a .405 hitting percentage against Boston College. On the week, Kellogg averaged 4.27 kills per game and 1.27 blocks per game.
