Tallahassee, Fla. – Junior Kelly Anderson and freshman Esther van Londen captured the Flight No. 1 Doubles Championship with an 8-6 win over Klara Zrustova and Zuzana Cerna of Baylor on day two of the 2004 Lady Seminole Classic, which is being played on the Florida State tennis courts in Tallahassee, Fla. In singles action, top seeded Anderson advanced to the championship match in the Flight No. 1 bracket and will play second-seeded Gabriela Duch of South Florida Sunday morning for the title.
After recording a three-set victory over UCF’s Kristina Lohmos Friday afternoon, Anderson played another long match against Baylor’s Zrustova Saturday and came back after dropping the first set to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. In other singles action, Yellow Jacket sophomore Alison Silverio advanced to Sunday’s fifth-place match in the Flight No. 2 Singles bracket against USF’s Liz Cruz with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Virginia’s Dora Bechliwanis Saturday. Van Londen also advanced to a fifth-place match Sunday with a default victory in the Flight No. 3 Singles bracket.
The lone Yellow Jacket loss on the day came in a fifth-place match in the Flight No. 2 Doubles bracket when Silverio and doubles partner Ana Maslesa of Temple lost 8-5 to UCF’s Pamela Fernandez and Jennifer Carati.
