TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Brandon Lasater and Andres Littig qualified for the 800-meter finals to highlight the second day Friday of the ACC Outdoor Championships as the Georgia Tech track and field team braved the elements in Tallahassee, Fla., at the Seminoles’ Mike Long Track.
Alex Braxton placed eighth in the heptathlon with a personal-best 4,854 points, almost 500 points better than her previous best, to earn the Georgia Tech women one team point. Following the heptathlon, action was suspended for 3.5 hours due to lightning in the area.
Running Preliminaries — Eight runners advance; winners of each heat plus the next best times
As the skies opened up and it started to pour down rain later in the day, Samantha Kiblinger logged a personal-best time in the 800 meters (2:09.98) for 13th place, and Morgan Jackson took 15th (2:10.70) overall and finished second in her heat.
The men took to the track as Lasater qualified for the 800-meter finals set for Saturday at 6:50 p.m. Lasater won his preliminary heat and finished eighth overall in a time of 1:50.87 to automatically qualify. Littig finished second in his heat and third overall in a time of 1:50.08 to also qualify for the finals.
Before the rain, Kenya Collins placed ninth in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries in a personal-best time of 13.845, just missing qualifying for the finals by four one-thousands of a second. Spencer Allen took ninth in the 110-meter hurdle preliminaries with a career-best time of 14.14..
Jazmyne Taylor placed 18th in a personal-best time of 55.47 in the 400m preliminaries and for the men Alexander Reese finished 25th in the same event (48.74).
Jamilah Middlebrooks placed 13th in the women’s 100m (11.94), and for the men Broderick Snoddy placed 10th (10.73) and Zachary Gunnz took 13th (10.92).
Saturday’s Slate
Due to heavy rain at Mike Long Track, the women’s pole vault at the 2015 ACC Outdoor Championship has been postponed and rescheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m.
In addition to a full slate of field events, Tech will be running in the 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter relays, and the 5,000 meters. Lasater and Jeremy Greenwald will run in the 1500m finals, and then Lasater and Littig will take on the 800m finals.
ESPN3 coverage will be streamed lived on theACC.com from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, with Tom Block handling play-by-play and former Olympic gold medalist and decathlon world record holder Dan O’Brien serving as analyst.
