EVANSTON, Ill. – The #26-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team (7-5, 4-2 ACC) fell on the road to #9 Northwestern (9-3, 3-0 Big Ten), 7-0, Friday night at the Combe Tennis Center.
The Yellow Jackets started the night down, 1-0, to the Wildcats, after dropping the doubles point. After freshman Rasheeda McAdoo and Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer were blanked by Manon Peri and Belinda Niu on court three, 8-0, sophomore Natasha Prokhenvska and senior Muriel Wacker took down #62-ranked Nida Hamilton and Maddie Lipp, 8-3. On court one, #47 Veronica Corning and Alicia Barnett defeated #2 Megan Kurey and Kendal Woodard, 8-3.
In singles, Northwestern’s Loke Sze Leung defeated Anton-Ohlmeyer, 6-1, 6-1 on court six and Woodard lost to #32 Niu at the number two spot,6-2, 6-3. Prokhenvska fell to #36 Corning on court number one, 6-2, 7-5. which clinched the win for the Wildcats.
At the number three position, Barnett edged Kurey, 6-2, 7-6 and Wacker fell in her match to Hamilton, 6-1, 7-5. After falling on court four in the first set to Peri, 6-4, McAdoo defeated her opponent 6-3 in set two. Peri ultimately won the tiebreaker, topping off Northwestern’s 7-0 victory.
The Yellow Jackets return home next weekend, hosting #18 Clemson on Friday, March 28 at 3 p.m. and NC State on Saturday, March 30 at noon.
