15 Top-10 finishes for Jackets on Day Two of Kentucky Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fatmata Fofanah won the women’s 60-meter hurdles to lead the Georgia Tech track and field teams on the second day of the Kentucky Invitational at the Nutter Fieldhouse.

Fofanah ran an NCAA automatic qualifying and personal-best time of 8.04 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to earn the victory in the event. Earlier in the day, Fofanah had the top qualifying time in the preliminary round, crossing the line in 8.14.

Tiffany Grant placed third in the 400-meter with a time of 55.52. Former Tech standout, Ashlee Kidd, who was running unattached, won the event with a time of 52.89.

Freshman Jenae Anderson finished the 200-meter in ninth place with a time of 25.05.

The men’s squad was led by James Lemons II, who finished third in the long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 2 ¾ inches. He was followed by Alphonso Jordan, who placed fourth with a mark of 23 feet.

In the men’s 60-meter hurdles, Dave Ford crossed the line in sixth place with a time of 8.23. Jordan finished eighth in a time of 8.25 for his second top-ten performance of the day and third of the meet.

Freshman Mark Mendrek-Laske placed ninth in the men’s mile run with a time 4:26.32 in his Georgia Tech debut.

Antonio McKay Jr., son of former Tech great Antonio McKay Sr., placed third in the 400-meter with a time of 47.98. Matt DiDia crossed the line sixth with a time of 49.64.

In the men’s 800-meter run, Tim Guglielmo finished eighth with a time of 1:56.86. Freshman Hunter Clasen finished the 800 with a time of 1:57.51 for a 10th-place finish.

Three Jackets finished in the top 10 of the men’s 3,000-meter run. E.C. Gibbs crossed the line in second place with a time of 8:29.48. Cristan Duvall finished sixth with a time of 8:47.73 and was followed by Billy Mateker, who had a time of 8:48.61.

The Jackets return to action next Friday, Jan. 18 at the Clemson Invitational.
