THE FLATS – Fourteen Yellow Jackets are headed to Jacksonville, Fla. to represent Georgia Tech track and field at the 2019 NCAA East Preliminaries on May 23-25 at Hodges Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets had eight qualify from the men’s team and six from the women’s team.

Bria Matthews and Jeanine Williams led the way for the Jackets as they each rank in the top three in their respective events.

After being crowned Atlantic Coast Conference Champion in the triple jump Matthews has the third highest mark in the east region, after jumping a school record mark of 13.77m during the ACC Outdoor Championships and earning all-ACC honors. Matthews will represent the Jackets in both the triple and long jump.

Williams, meanwhile, will compete in the 100m hurdles after running a school-best time of 12.72 at the ACC Outdoor Championship, earning a second-place finish. Her time is tied for the best in the region and allowed her to acquire all-ACC honors.

Also joining will be all-ACC honorees Ben Jean and Daniel Pietsch (400m), as well as Avery Bartlett (800m), and Tyson Spears (long jump). First-team all-ACC selection Cole Shea will compete in the pole vault, while Andrew Kent will battle it out in the 5k. Ryan Thomas will double in the long jump and the triple jump, and Bennett Hillier will join teammate Bartlett in the 800m event.

For the women’s team, Amy Ruiz (1500m), Hana Herndon (5k), and Nicole Fegans (5k) will join the likes of Williams (100m H), Matthews (triple jump and long jump), and Dasia Smith (long jump).

The 2019 NCAA East Preliminaries can be streamed live on FloTrack with a subscription fee. Tickets for the event begin at $15 for a single session and $35 for all three days.
