Zone Diving Championship Underway At Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. – Brandon Makinson finished 10th in the men’s 3-meter competition, while Helen Alvey and Ashley Hardy each reached the finals of the women’s 1-meter as action began Monday at the Zone Diving Championship at Auburn University.

The Zone Diving Championship brings together more than 80 collegiate divers from a six-state region, looking to secure one of 18 berths to the NCAA National Championship.

Makinson, Hardy and Alvey each reached Monday’s finals, with Makinson taking home a 10th-place finish on the 3-meter board with his two-round score of 717.45. He qualified for Monday night’s finals with his preliminary score of 363.10 points.

Alvey collected a 13th-place finish Monday night, with teammate Hardy finishing just a spot behind. Alvey posted a prelim score of 263.05 and a two-round total of 539.65. Hardy posted 259.25 points in the prelims, and totaled 538.45 over two rounds.

The Zone Diving Championship resumes Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. with the men’s 1-meter and women’s 3-meter.
