Yellow Jackets Take 11 of 12 Matches on Day Two of Georgia Tech Invitational

Nov. 6, 2004

ATLANTA – Kelly Anderson, Lyndsay Shosho and Kacie Anson all remained undefeated in both singles and doubles action as the Yellow Jackets won 11 of 12 matches on day two of the Georgia Tech Invitational, which is being contested at Georgia Tech’s Bill Moore Tennis Center.

The Jackets began the day by sweeping all four doubles matches against opponents from Marshall. Kristi Miller and Alison Silverio dropped the Thundering Herd’s Ashley Kroh and Lille Nzudie, 8-1, while juniors Lindsey Shosho and Kelly Anderson teamed together to record an 8-3 win against Joelle Good and Danielle Hock. The Jackets’ duo of Lindsey Stauss and Esther van Londen also recorded an 8-3 victory against Alizee Paradis and Holly Asel, and Kacie Anson and Dasha Potapova rounded out doubles action by downing Jeanne Schwartz and Shannon Brown, 8-6.

In singles play, Georgia Tech faced opponents from ACC foe Maryland, and recorded victories in seven of eight matches. Anderson, Silverio, Stauss and van Londen each recorded straight-set victories, as Anderson downed the Terrapins’ Marianne Baker, 6-3, 6-3, Silverio defeated Neda Mihneva, 7-6, 6-1, Stauss dropped Julia Graca, 6-4, 6-2, and van Londen won 6-4, 6-1 against Brooke Rogers. Two Yellow Jackets came back to win after dropping their first sets, as Shosho recorded a 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 victory against Tamar Huppes and Anson came back to win 2-6, 7-6, 7-5 against Masha Senic. Miller won her first set against Ramona But, 6-4, but then dropped a 4-6 decision in the second before coming back to win 6-3 in the third and final set of the day.

“I thought it was a great day,” said Georgia Tech head coach Bryan Shelton. “The group played really well in doubles and we really improved over yesterday’s play in both singles and doubles. I am looking forward to a strong finish tomorrow.”

The Georgia Tech Invitational will conclude Sunday, beginning with doubles play in the morning. The Yellow Jackets will face Maryland while the Seminoles meet the Marshall Thundering Herd, all at 9 a.m. In singles action, Marshall meets Maryland at 10:30 a.m. with Florida State and Georgia Tech to follow immediately after the conclusion of the early singles matches.
