THE FLATS – After going 6-2 against top-15 opponents since March 22, Georgia Tech baseball soared into the national rankings itself, placing as high as 17 in the polls.
D1Baseball gave the Yellow Jackets the No. 17 nod, while Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball ranked Georgia Tech just below that at No. 18. Tech’s 3-1 week also jumped it into Perfect Game’s top-20, ranking 20th overall.
Georgia Tech has put together an impressive resume over the first half of the season, securing seven total wins over top-15 opponents this season, including hugely important ACC series wins at then-No. 4 Louisville and recently at home against then-No. 9 North Carolina to take sole possession of first place in the Coastal Division.
The Yellow Jackets have also gone undefeated in the midweeks as well, including an 11-2 win over then-No. 4 Georgia at home in a rain-shortened, seven-inning affair before also defeating No. 15 Auburn on the road, 9-3.
Tech has been especially impressive in conference play this season, currently ranking in the top-four of the league in on-base percentage (first), hits (second), RBI and slugging (third), and runs (fourth).
