THE FLATS – Georgia Tech Track and Field will open its indoor regular season in Clemson, S.C. on Saturday at the Clemson Orange and Purple Elite.
The meet starts at 10 a.m. with field events with track events starting at 12:20 p.m.
This will be the first action for many Yellow Jackets. Olivia Moore is seeing her first action after earning first team All-ACC honors in the pole vault. Moore cleared 4.32m at the 2021 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships, good for third.
Coming off an ACC Freshman of the Year campaign, Cameron O’Neal returns to action. O’Neal placed third at the 2021 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships in the long jump with a leap of 7.68m.
Tech is returning to Clemson following the Clemson Opener on Dec. 3. The women’s side has several top performers in the ACC at the meet. Taylor Grimes is currently best in the ACC in the 60 hurdles (8.36) while also being sixth in the long jump (5.89m).
In the high jump, Shanty Papkosta is in a tie for the top spot in the ACC with a mark of 1.76m. Papakosta is the only jumper to clear 1.76m without failing an attempt.
Rounding out the Jackets top three performers is Jill Catton in the 200m with a time of 24.98, good for third in the conference.
The men’s side was highlighted by McKinley Thompson. Thompson finished second at the Clemson Opener, clearing 1.98m in the high jump.
Following this meet in Clemson, the White and Gold are back in action the following weekend for a two day meet in Nashville at the Vanderbilt Commodore Challenge.
