Yellow Jackets In the NFL Update

Week 9 was a slow week for Yellow Jackets in the NFL. The best individual performance by a former Tech player was probably by Dallas Cowboys veteran Keith Brooking, who had 10 tackles in a losing effort.

The good news concerning former Jackets is that many look like they will play in the postseason. Fourteen former Jackets are on teams that have won at least five games – good marks in a league extremely balanced this season. Five teams featuring Tech players are 6-2 – the Steelers, Falcons, Giants, Ravens and Patriots.

Look for two former Jackets Thursday night when the Atlanta Falcons (Vance Walker) play the Baltimore Ravens (Dawan Landry).

Here’s a look at how all 25 former Jackets did this week:

Keith Brooking, LB, Dallas Cowboys (1-7)
The veteran is doing his part. He had 10 tackles for the second straight week.

Morgan Burnett, S, Green Bay Packers (6-3)
Burnett, who started the first four games of the season, is out for the season with a torn ACL

James Butler, S, St. Louis Rams (4-4)
Rams had a Week 9 bye, play San Franciso this week with a chance to go above .500

Tashard Choice, RB, Dallas Cowboys (1-7)
Rushed three times for nine yards in a 45-7 thrashing by the Packers; will play for a new head coach this week.

Mike Cox, RB, Kansas City Chiefs (5-3)
Did not play in overtime loss to the Raiders.

Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2)
Steelers are atop the AFC, but Dwyer has yet to see action.

Andrew Economos, LS, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-3)
Bucs lost in the Georgia Dome Sunday, 27-21.

John Paul Foschi, TE, Cincinnati Bengals (2-6)
Saw action in Monday night’s 27-21 loss to the Steelers.

Keyaron Fox, LB, Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2)
Played on Monday Night Football in the win over Cincinnati.

Andrew Gardner, OL, Minnesota Vikings (3-4)
Signed in October to be on the Vikings’ practice squad.

Gary Guyton, LB, New England Patriots (6-2)
Saw action Sunday but the Patriots were whipped by the Cleveland Browns.

Anthony Hargrove, DL, New Orleans Saints (6-3)
Had one tackle in 34-3 beat down of the Carolina Panthers.

Will Heller, TE, Detroit Lions (2-6)
Saw playing time against the Jets Sunday for the hard luck Lions.

Cord Howard, OL, Buffalo Bills (0-8)
Made third career start in yet another close loss for Chan Gailey’s team.

Calvin Johnson, WR, Detroit Lions (2-6)
The superstar wide receiver was held to one reception for 13 yards.

Michael Johnson, LB, Cincinnati Bengals (2-5)
Played on Monday Night Football last night against Pittsburgh.

Dawan Landry, S, Baltimore Ravens (6-2)
Recorded three tackles in Sunday’s 26-10 win over Miami.

Derrick Morgan, DE, Tennessee Titans (5-3)
The rookie first-round draft pick is out for the season with a torn ACL.

Chris Reis, S, New Orleans Saints (6-3)
On injured reserve following shoulder surgery

Darryl Richard, DT, New England Patriots (6-2)
On injured reserve this season

Daryl Smith, LB, Jacksonville Jaguars (4-4)
Jaguars host Houston after Week 9 bye.

Demaryius Thomas, WR, Denver Broncos (2-6)
Broncos had the week off after their trip to England.

Vance Walker, DT, Atlanta Falcons (6-2)
Had one tackle in the Falcons’ 27-21 victory over Tampa Bay.

Philip Wheeler, LB, Indianapolis Colts (5-3)
Had one pass break-up in 26-24 loss to Philadelphia.

Ken Whisenhunt, Head Coach, Arizona Cardinals (3-5) Cardinals lost another close one, this time to Brett Favre and the Vikings.

Gerris Wilkinson, LB, New York Giants (6-2)
Did not play in 41-7 blowout win at Seattle.

Mansfield Wrotto, OL, Buffalo Bills (0-8)
Saw action in 22-19 loss to Chicago.
