THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team concluded its second fall tournament, the Roberta Alison Fall Classic hosted by the University of Alabama Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Yellow Jackets two young doubles teams were both tested in a two matches Saturday. Freshmen Kendal Woodard and Megan Kurey tallied a tough 9-7 win over Samford’s Kristin Lewis and Lauren Caballero. In Saturday’s second doubles match, Woodard and Kurey dropped an 8-5 decision to Northwestern’s 10th-ranked team of Nida Hamilton and Linda Abu Mushrefova 8-5.
Rookie Natasha Prokhnevska and sophomore Jasmine Minor suffered a pair of hard losses in doubles action. In their opening match, Prokhnevska and Minor fell to Middle Tennessee State’s side of Lexi Brand and Nayara Moraes 8-5. The Jacket duo fell in a tiebreak, 9-8(6), to Georgia State’s pair of Whitney Byrd and Linn Timmerman.
Georgia Tech will be back in action Oct. 19-22 at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships hosted by USF in Tampa, Fla.
