ATLANTA – Jillian O’Neill, Viet Ha Ngo and Muriel Wacker all finished 3-0 this weekend as the Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis team closed out the 2010 Georgia Tech Invitational Sunday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
“It was a great weekend,” head coach Bryan Shelton said. “The girls played extremely well throughout the weekend. Our doubles is something we want to emphasize this season and we are ahead of schedule. All the teams here competed well and it was just a great event.”
O’Neill and Kilborn got the day started with an 8-4 doubles win in flight one of Oklahoma State’s Nataliya Shatkouskaya and Kanyapat Narattana. In flight two, Ngo and Wacker fought all the way back from a 7-3 deficit for an impressive 9-7 win over the Cowboys Alisa Buslaieva and C.C. Sardinha.
Wacker, a freshman from Zurich, Switzerland, continued her hot start to the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Silia DeFilippis of Yale in the seventh singles flight.
O’Neill, who finished the weekend with a 3-0 record, defeated Georgia’s Maho Kowase, 6-0, 6-3 at flight No. 3. Ngo also earned her third win of the weekend behind a tough 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 three-set victory over Lilly Kimbell of the Bulldogs.
The Yellow Jackets will next travel west for the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The event begins on Oct. 2 and runs through Oct. 10.
