XC: Men Finish 7th; Women 12th at Arturo Barrios Invite

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Georgia Tech concluded meet at the Arturo Barrios Invite with a men’s seventh place finish; the women finished 12th.

“We had a solid day for both teams,” said head men’s and women’s cross country coach Alan Drosky. “The Arturo Barrios Invitational draws teams from coast to coast, so the competition is strong, so we placed well. The men finished higher than we projected, and the women were about where they were expected to be.”

For the men, senior Devin Wade (Atlanta, Ga.) was the first runner to cross the finish line for Tech, coming in 20th with a time of 23:45.05. Securing a top-35 finish for the Yellow Jackets was senior John Higinbotham (Covington, Ga.), crossing the finish line in 31st place with a time of 24:00.03. Senior Charlie Smith (Lake Geneva, Wis.) finished with a time of 24:15.5 finishing in spot 55.

“Charlie had by far his best race of the season,” said Drosky.

On the women’s side, graduate Grace Driskill (Tucson, Az.) crossed first for Tech, finishing in 26th position with a time of 20:18.04. Junior Mary Brady (Avondale Estate, Ga.) finished in a top-50 spot, she landed in the 43rd spot with a time of 20:33.0.

“Grace has been solid as our first runner,” Drosky said of Driskill’s performances this season. “Mary is recovering from an illness and looked much better today.”

“Now, we move on to the conference and regional meets, and we look forward to sharpening up over the coming weeks,” added Drosky on preparing for the rest of the season.
