Women’s Tennis Welcomes Wake Forest, NC State

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis returns to action this weekend, welcoming a pair of top-25 programs to the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. Action gets underway on Friday at 1 p.m. against Wake Forest and Sunday at 2 p.m. against NC State.

No. 33 Georgia Tech (8-4, 5-1 ACC) picked up a pair of conference wins last weekend against Louisville and Notre Dame to open this four-match homestand. The Jackets collected both doubles points and saw strong action in singles play. For their performances, Carol Lee and Kylie Bilchev were named ACC Player of the Week and ACC Freshman of the Week, respectively.

No. 21 Wake Forest (9-5, 1-2 ACC) comes into the weekend off a tough loss to No. 2 NC State, 4-3. The Demon Deacons have dropped two of their past three meetings, opening league play with a 4-3 loss against Miami before topping Florida State. Anna Brylin and Casie Wooten lead the Deacs with nine singles each on the season, while Samantha Martinelli and Wooten boast a 7-4 doubles record, mainly from the No. 2 position. Wake Forest holds the narrow edge in the all-time series, 23-19, and has taken two of the past three meetings.

No. 2 NC State (15-1, 3-0 ACC) carries an unblemished conference record into the weekend and will visit Clemson on Friday before coming to Tech on Sunday. The Wolfpack’s only loss this season came against North Carolina in the semifinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Jaeda Daniel holds down the No. 1 singles position with an 8-6 record, while the Wolfpack boast two doubles teams with 10-plus wins on the season. Georgia Tech leads the all-time series against NC State, 33-13, and took a pair of meetings last season.
