THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis will send five Yellow Jackets to the 36th annual Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic this weekend, Sept. 15-17. The three-day tournament will be played at the Mickel Tennis Center and hosted by Furman University.
Featuring 14 teams, the tournament format will be flighted competition (no team winner, just individual flight champions for singles and doubles). Two rounds of doubles will be played on Friday, followed by one round of singles. Action continues on Saturday with one round of doubles and one round of singles. The final round of singles action will take place on Sunday. Action begins each day at 9 a.m.
Joining Georgia Tech in the field will be Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Duke, Furman, Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi State, NC State, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wake Forest. The competitive field features seven teams ranked in the ITA top 20 final rankings last season.
Representing Georgia Tech this weekend will be returners Ruth Marsh (Atlanta, Ga.) and Kate Sharabura (Atlanta, Ga.), and newcomers, Ginger Foster (Los Angeles, Calif.), Meera Jesudason (Berwyn, Pa.) and Given Roach (Cheshunt, England).
