Women's Tennis Has Six Players Advance at Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

Pacific Palisades, Calif. – Senior Dasha Potapova, junior Kacie Anson, sophomore Alison Silverio and freshman Kristi Miller advanced to the second round of singles play in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Pre-Qualifier Saturday afternoon in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Lyndsay Shosho and Kelly Anderson have already advanced to the Qualifying Round of the tournament and will begin play on Monday or Tuesday afternoon.

Also advancing on day one of competition were the doubles teams of Anson and Potapova and Miller and Silverio. The duo of Anderson and Shosho have also advanced to the Qualifying Round in doubles play and their first match of the tournament will be next Tuesday.

Potapova began the afternoon by defeating Washington State’s Chris Martinez, 6-3, 6-3, and will face Old Dominion’s Fernanda Luiz, a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Long Beach State’s Sandra Rocha, Sunday morning. Silverio, a 6-4, 6-0 winner over ACC-foe Roxanne Clark of Florida State, will also play Sunday morning when she meets Lindsey Nelson of USC, a 6-1, 6-2 victor over Rice’s Amy Cao in her first round match. Anson earned her first singles victory of the fall when she battled UNLV’s Claire Smith to three sets, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. With the win, she earned a meeting with Tulane’s Ana Mariea Saaibi, who earned a bye in the first round. Rounding out the singles victors on the day for the Yellow Jackets was the tournaments 13th seed, Kristi Miller. She made quick work of Rice’s Dominique Karas, winning 6-0, 6-1, and will face UNLV’s Sharon Marin, a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Boise State’s Alyssa Ayling.

In doubles action, Miller and Silverio moved to 5-0 this fall by defeating Washington’s Allison Rainey and Tara Simpson, 8-3, and they will face Purdue’s Alyssa Rodriguez and Hala Sufi in their second round match on Sunday. Anson and Potapova teamed together to down Washington State’s Martinez and Orsolya Sallai, 8-6, and automatically advanced to the third round with a bye in their second-round match.

On Sunday, the Yellow Jackets will play the second and third rounds of singles play and only the second round in doubles. Results will be posted on www.ramblinwreck.com at the conclusion of Georgia Tech’s play Sunday evening.
