NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team went undefeated in doubles competition and recorded four wins in singles play during the first day of the June Stewart Invitational at Vanderbilt.
The Yellow Jackets opened up the tournament facing Indiana in doubles. The #26 pairing of sophomore Kendal Woodard and Megan Kurey defeated Kauss and Mordy, 8-2. The freshman duo of Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer and Rasheeda McAdoo recorded their first win together, edging Chopo and Klyczek, 8-7 (4).
Senior Muriel Wacker and sophomore Natasha Prokhnevska also notched a victory, taking down the Hoosier’s Fujimoto and Garre, 8-6.
Tech’s singles opponent of the afternoon was William and Mary. Kurey paired up against Melanie Roy and recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win. In her first set against Nabila Farah, Prokhnevska battled it out to a 7-5 win. Prokhnevska secured her victory, winning set two, 6-1.
After Wacker fell in her first set, 6-2, to Casselburt, the senior bounced back to win set two 6-2. In the third frame, Wacker won 6-3 to take the match. Anton-Ohlmeyer also recorded a win on the afternoon, defeating Smith, 6-4, 6-2.
McAdoo suffered her first singles loss of the tournament season, falling to Leeza Nemchinov, 6-4, 6-4. At the Georgia State Invitational, McAdoo went 3-0 in singles. Loomans recorded a 6-4, 7-5 win against Woodard.
Play resumes tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. ET. Georgia Tech will face Vanderbilt in doubles and Indiana in singles on Saturday.
