ATLANTA – Georgia Tech opened it’s dual match season today with a 4-3 loss to William & Mary in the first round of the Minnesota Court Classic in Minneapolis, Minn. The Jackets and Tribe split the singles matches, each taking three apiece. In doubles play, William & Mary captured 2-of-3 matches to win the doubles point and the match.
The dual match was tied heading into the final set of the final match at No. 3 singles. In the match W&M’s Amy Wei defeated Alison Silverio 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The final set of No. 3 singles featured four breaks of service in the 6-3 set. Lyndsay Shosho, Lindsey Stauss, and Maria Nieto all captured wins for the Jackets, all in straight sets. Tech’s loan doubles win was an 8-4 victory for Stauss and Silverio against Lingda Yang and Emily Mowery.
Due to team flight schedules, William & Mary will face Rice in the 10 a.m. contest with Georgia Tech facing off against tournament host Minnesota at 2 p.m.
