Women’s Tennis Concludes Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Newcomer Meera Jesudason took home a victory on the final day of competition at the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets wrapped up the three-day tournament that kicked off the fall tournament season.

Battling inclement weather on the last day, play was moved indoors to close out the tournament. Georgia Tech played its final round of singles action at Clemson, highlighted by a strong performance from Jesudason. The freshman Jacket faced off against Alabama’s Sydney Orefice, taking straight 6-2 sets for a victory.

Fellow classmate, Given Roach, also battled to the last point on the final day against Furman’s Maeve Thornton. Roach took the first set, 6-2, but Thornton forced a super tiebreak after winning the second set, 6-3. The Jacket and Paladin battled back-and-forth to the last point, but Roach couldn’t pull it out, dropping the tiebreak, 13-11.

After successful tournaments, Ruth Marsh and Kate Sharabura closed out play on Sunday. Marsh faced Ohio State’s Audrey Spenser, falling 6-4, 6-4, while Sharabura dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Tennessee’s Sofia Cabezas.

Up next, the Yellow Jackets return to action at the College Ranked Spotlight next weekend, Sept. 21-23, hosted by NC State.
