ATLANTA – Seniors Elena Linn and David Herren each crossed the line first for their respective Georgia Tech cross country teams on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at the 2007 Pre-Nationals Meet on Saturday.
Linn, a Marietta, Ga. native, finished the women’s white 6K race in 79th place in a time of 21:33 to lead the women’s team to a 22nd-place finish overall. Placing 88th overall was senior Nisha Kurian, who crossed the line second for the Jackets with a time of 21:38. Also breaking the 22-minute mark was senior Jenny Sims, who finished 94th with a time of 21:42.
Rounding out the women’s top five was senior Maria Hampton in 173rd place, crossing with a time of 22:49 and sophomore Lindsey Pickens, who finished in 176th place with a time of 22:51.
The men’s team, which placed 34th in the white 8K race, was led by Herren, who placed 91st overall with a time of 24:26. Senior Cristan Duvall was second for the Jackets in 181st place with a time of 25:17. Placing 184th in the race was junior EC Gibbs, who finished with a time of 25:22.
Finishing fourth for the Tech was sophomore Billy Mateker, who crossed the line with a time of 25:36. Matt Hickey, a sophomore from Lawrenceville, Ga., finished fifth for the Jackets with a time of 25:45 and in 226th-place overall.
The men’s and women’s cross country teams will return to action on Saturday, October 27 at the Atlantic Coast Championships in Charlottesville, Va.
