THE FLATS – Rising senior Colt Williamson and rising junior Emily Ilgenfritz of the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s swimming team will compete at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships in Irvine, Calif. The meet will be held July 25-29 at the William Woollett, Jr. Aquatic Center.

Williamson is entered in two events on the week, competing in the men’s 200 backstroke and the 400 freestyle events, while Ilgenfritz will compete in the women’s 400 freestyle event. Both Jacket swimmers may also compete in a number of time trial events as well.

Williamson is Tech’s school-record holder in the 200 back event with a time of 1:41.89, while both Williamson and Ilgenfritz hold the Yellow Jackets’ school record in the 500 free event. Williamson owns the men’s 500 free record with a time of 4:18.78, while Ilgenfritz is the record holder in the women’s 500 free with her of time 4:44.98.

The nation’s top swimmers will be in action competing for national titles and will also be looking to earn selection to represent the United States at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, which runs from Aug. 9-14 in Tokyo. To earn a spot on the roster for the Pan Pacific Championships, swimmers must secure a top finish in all events except the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle events, where the top six finishers will be invited to represent the United States as relay competitors.

The combined results of the Phillips 66 National Championships and the Pan Pacific Championships will determine the United States roster for the 2019 FINA World Championships. The meet also has implications for swimmers who are looking for a chance to earn berths on the United States’ teams for the 2019 Pan American Games and the 2019 World University Games.

The 2018-19 United States Swimming National Team will be announced Aug. 31.

Live broadcast coverage will be provided by NBC Sports across NBC, NBC Sports Network and the Olympic Channel. Daily prelims can be streamed live at usaswimming.org. A full television and webcast schedule can be found here.
