BLACKSBURG, Va. – Three Yellow Jackets recorded double-doubles as the Georgia Tech volleyball team (10-4, 1-1 ACC) defeated Virginia Tech (6-7, 1-1) in four sets on Sunday afternoon at Cassell Coliseum. Teegan Van Gunst (her ninth), Rebecca Martin (second) and Gabriela Stavnetchei (second) recorded double-doubles.
How It Happened
Up 6-4, the Jackets rattled off six straight points to make it 12-4 in game one thanks in part to the block efforts of Sydney Wilson and Rebecca Martin and back-to-back kills by Wilson. Georgia Tech led by as many as 10, 18-8, on its way to capture the opening game 25-20.
The Jackets took their first lead in set two with set point 24-23 after working back from a 23-19 deficit. The Hokies withstood Georgia Tech’s comeback and won the game 27-25 to tie the match 1-1.
Georgia Tech opened a 5-4 lead to make it 8-4 and never looked back. The Jackets used .314 hitting to run away with the set 25-16 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The teams traded leads three times with 13 tied scores in game four. Knotted 21-21, the Jackets scored the last four points in the match capped off by a solo block from Wilson to win 25-21.

“It was a great win on the road and it’s good to see us bounce back from Friday,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “We played with more energy and intent in this match. Our middles set the tone offensively and defensively. Now it is time to get back in the gym and get better. We have a very challenging weekend ahead of us.”
