After almost 20 practices, the 12th ranked Georgia Tech volleyball team will conclude its preseason schedule with an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 23 as part of the Suwanee Sports Academy Volleyfest in Suwanee, Ga. The cost of the event is $4 and the Yellow Jackets will take the court at 7 p.m.
“We are excited to be a part of this event. This scrimmage will be a good way to test if we are ready to perform,” said head coach Bond Shymansky. “There is a new sense of energy and importance to the level of play when you actually put on your uniform and have to show an audience what you can do as a team. This scrimmage will be the perfect opportunity for our team to focus on game-time performance as our first match of the 2003 season draws near.”
The Yellow Jackets have been busy over the past two weeks in preparations for the 2003 season that gets underway on Aug. 29 in O’Keefe Gymnasium. Georgia Tech will open its season hosting the Courtyard by Marriott Classic Aug. 29-30 and will face Northwestern in the first match of the season and also Alabama and Coastal Carolina in the tournament.
“Pre-season practice has been challenging for our team,” said Shymansky. “We are experimenting with new line-ups and have changed some of our systems and strategies in preparation for one of the toughest schedules in all of college volleyball. We have made great strides, but we are not there yet, and we look forward to working together and improving Saturday as part of the Suwanee Sports Academy Volleyfest.”
