SCHWARZENBEK, Germany – In the second match of the German international tour, the Georgia Tech volleyball team defeated the German Youth National Team, a 16-and under team and the recent gold medal winner of the Junior Olympic European Games held in Spain, in five games, 16-25, 30-28, 25-17, 19-25, 25-20. Maja Pachale led the Yellow Jackets with 11 kills and seven digs, While Kyleen Bell tallied 10 kills and eight digs. Amanda Hess chipped in a team-high 10 digs.
“The German Youth team is a very talented team, with many players who would be high-level players on the collegiate level back in the United States,” said head coach Shelton Collier. “At full strength, with all of their starters, they would be a definite top-15 Division I team. We had to play very well, at times, to win the match.”
“Our goal is to allow as many players on the team as possible the opportunity to develop and improve in preparation for our upcoming collegiate season,” said Collier. “Every match here we hope to learn and grow as a team and a tough five-game win like this should help us.”
The team will return to action on Monday when it faces the Schwerin Club Team, the former club team of Tech standout Maja Pachale in Schwerin, Germany.
