ATLANTA – Eight NCAA Tournament teams and 15 home matches at O’Keefe Gym highlight the 2010 Georgia Tech Volleyball schedule released today by head coach Tonya Johnson. The Yellow Jackets will begin the season hosting Indiana, UAB and Alabama A&M in a tournament, August 27-28.

In 2009, first-year head coach Tonya Johnson guided the Yellow Jackets to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2004. Georgia Tech returns the majority of its starters from last year’s squad which went 21-10 overall and recorded a third-place ACC finish.

After the opening weekend tournament, the Yellow Jackets hit the road for a tournament at Kansas State, Sept. 3-4. While in Manhattan, Kan., Tech will face Oral Roberts and Loyola Marymount in addition to the host Wildcats.

On Sept. 10-11, Tech will head over to Athens for the University of Georgia’s tournament. The Jackets will take on Florida Gulf Coast and Washington as well as rival-UGA. The Huskies were a national seed last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Tech’s final early season tournament will be hosted by Clemson, Sept. 17-18. The Jackets will face the host Tigers on Friday night in the ACC opener before closing out with matches against Florida A&M and Georgia State the following day. Florida A&M was a NCAA Tournament team as well from last season.

Tech opens up ACC play by hosting Duke (Sept. 24) and Wake Forest (Sept. 26) at O’Keefe Gym before hitting the road for four straight matches at Virginia (Oct. 1), Virginia Tech (Oct. 2), Miami (Oct. 8) and Florida State (Oct. 10). The Seminoles are the defending ACC champions and went to the Elite Eight last year. Tech handed FSU its only conference loss.

After the trip, Georgia Tech returns home to host five straight matches. Following ACC tilts against North Carolina (Oct. 15), NC State (Oct. 17), Boston College (Oct. 22) and Maryland (23), the Yellow Jackets close out the homestand on Tuesday, Oct. 26 against Middle Tennessee State. The Blue Raiders were another NCAA team from 2009.

After a trip to North Carolina to take on Wake Forest (Oct. 29) and Duke (Oct. 30), Tech begins November with four straight matches at home against Florida State (Nov. 5), Miami (Nov. 6), Virginia Tech (Nov. 12) and Virginia (Nov. 14).

Tech’s final road trip will be Nov. 19 and 21 against NC State and North Carolina, respectively. The regular season finale and senior night will be Friday, Nov. 26 when Clemson comes to town.
