HEAD COACH Bond Shymansky: “This is a great tournament field from top to bottom. Most of the teams expect to be in the NCAA Tournament by season’s end and playing four matches at this level in two days will be a daunting task for our team.”
SOURING SAUER’S RETURN TO ATLANTA From 2001-04, the Yellow Jackets were fortunate enough to have the skills, talent, and power of 6-4 outside hitter Lauren Sauer on the court. With her return to Atlanta this weekend, Tech is hoping that those three attributes haven’t translated to her current team. Sauer is in her first year as an assistant coach with the Kentucky Wildcats, and is one of five former Yellow Jackets in the coaching ranks this season. The former honorable mention All-America still stands fourth in the Georgia Tech record books with 1,706 career kills and fifth with 3.60 kills per game.
TWO JACKETS TABBED ARKANSAS ALL-TOURNAMENT After finishing second in the Yellow Jackets’ season-opening tournament at the University of Arkansas in late August, two members of the Georgia Tech volleyball team received all-tournament accolades. Nikki Kaminskas received the second all-tournament honor of her career, and first in two years, while Talisa Kellogg earned her second all-tournament nod in as many years.
