CONWAY, S.C. – The Georgia Tech volleyball team (8-2) used strong defense to sweep North Florida (8-5) in the Jackets’ first match of the Coastal Carolina Tournament on Friday afternoon. Junior Sydney Wilson put up a career-high four solo blocks, while senior London Ackermann put up 16 digs.
How It Happened
Tied 7-7 in set one, a kill by Teegan Van Gunst gave the Yellow Jackets the lead for good as Tech claimed the opening set 25-19. Teegan Van Gunst and Annika Van Gunst combined for 13 of Tech’s 18 kills in set one.
Again tied 7-7 in the second set, three straight points by the Yellow Jackets gave them the momentum they needed throughout the set to win 25-22.
Set three was a back and forth battle that featured six tied scores and three lead changes. Down 18-17, the Jackets used a 4-0 run to take a 21-18 lead and capped off the set 25-20 on a service ace by Emily Becker.

“North Florida played us tough so I was pleased that we come out with a sweep,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “London and Sydney did a great job defensively and Annika and Teegan led the way offensively. There were good individual contributions on both sides of the game.
“We now shift our focus to Coastal Carolina, who is a great team playing very good volleyball right now. We must be ready for a hard fought match tonight.”
