THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech volleyball team (11-5, 2-2 ACC) earned its sixth sweep of the season against the NC State Wolfpack (9-7, 2-2) Sunday afternoon at O’Keefe Gym.
How It Happened
The Yellow Jackets came out firing on all cylinders take a quick 13-5 lead in game one. Georgia Tech used 10 digs from London Ackermann and 16 kills in the first set to win 25-18.
Up 16-12 in game two, Teegan Van Gunst served the next nine straight points to keep NC State out of system and win the set 25-12.
The momentum stayed in the Jackets favor for the third set as the Jackets used 16 kills and 17 digs to defeat NC State 25-23.
“It’s a great win for us,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “NC State has been having a really good conference season so far. We knew that they were going to be a tough team.
“It doesn’t get any easier. We get Clemson [Wednesday] which is always a big rivalry match; we’re always pretty excited to play there. It’s a fun environment over there. Then we have Virginia who is also playing pretty well and has done well against us on the road so it doesn’t get any easier in the ACC.”
– London Ackermann put up 22 digs, marking her seventh match this season with 20-plus digs.
– Teegan tallied double-digit kills (14) for her 10th match in a row with double-digit figures.
– Gabriela Stavnetchei added 11 kills.
– Lauren Pitz hit at a .417 clip with six kills.
– Six of Tech’s wins have been sweeps.
– The Jackets out-hit the Wolfpack .231 to .090.
Georgia Tech heads to Clemson for a midweek matchup on Wednesday at 7 p.m. on the ACC Regional Sport Network and the ACC Network Extra.
