Volleyball Battles By Bowling Green State, 3-1

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –
The Georgia Tech volleyball team defeated the Bowling Green State Falcons, 3-1 (25-17, 19-25, 25-17, 25-17), in its first game of the Indiana Invite Friday evening at University Gym in Bloomington, Ind. The Yellow Jackets maintain a perfect 4-0 record, while the Falcons fall to 0-3 on the season.

Senior Monique Mead recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 kills and 10 digs, and senior Bailey Hunter added 14 kills. As a team, Tech hit for a .324 percentage and held the Falcons to a .179 hitting clip.

BGSU was led by Danielle Tonyan with 17 kills and Ashley Dunn who put up nine digs. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Falcons 70-47 throughout the four sets.

In the first set, Tech led by four points, 9-5, until BGSU pulled within two after three Yellow Jacket attacking errors. The Jackets then went on a 10-4 run to pull ahead 21-13 and eventually win the opening set 25-17.

Tonyan had eight kills on 13 total attacks for a .538 percentage to lead the Falcons past the Jackets in the second set. The BGSU offense hit at a .448 percentage and held Georgia Tech to just a .233 average. After the score was tied 2-2, BGSU went on a 5-1 run and never looked back to even the match, 1-1.

The Yellow Jackets rebounded in set three and took an early 5-1 lead to force a BGSU timeout. Georgia Tech dominated the third set, holding the Falcons to just a .037 hitting percentage. Courtney Felinski was 3-for-4 for a .750 attacking percentage and Hunter added four kills.

The fourth set was full of ups and down, as the score was tied 11 times and the lead changed three times. The score was neck-and-neck until it was 19-17 with Tech in the lead. Senior Susan Carlson served the rest of the game, and Hunter and junior Quinn Evans blocked a Tonyan attack to put the set and match away.

Georgia Tech continues action at the Indiana Invite on Saturday with a match against Cleveland State at 10 a.m., followed by a 7 p.m. contest against host Indiana.
